Homemade Kimchi

So far I was able to make my own Kimchi twice. But I can't say if they are close to the real thing. I have never been to South Korea. I have never tasted a kimchi made by a Korean. Mine is salty and I am not sure if that is the way it should be. I used the Barrio Fiesta's Spicy Bagoong as a substitute for Anchovies. For those who wants the recipe please visit Maangchi's Blog. Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus

Her name is Noelle
I have a dream about her
She rings my bell
I got gym class in half an hour

Oh, how she rocks
In Keds and tube socks
But she doesn't know who I am
And she doesn't give a damn about me

'Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me
Ooohoo hoo hooooooo

Her boyfriend's a dick
He brings a gun to school
And he'd simply kick
My ass if he knew the truth
He lives on my block
And he drives an IROC
But he doesn't know who I am
And he doesn't give a damn about me

'Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me
Ooohoo hoo hooooooo

Oh yeah, dirtbag!
No, she doesn't know what she's missing
Oh yeah, dirtbag!
No, she doesn't know what she's missing

Man, I feel like mould
It's prom night and I am lonely
Lo and behold!
She's walking over to me

This must be fake
My lip starts to shake
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?
She says, "I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby
Come with me Friday, don't say maybe
I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby, like you"
Ooohoo hoo hooooooo

Oh yeah, dirtbag!
No, she doesn't know what she's missing
Oh yeah, dirtbag!
No, she doesn't know what she's missing

Stacy's Mom - Fountains of Wayne

(Stacy's mom has got it going on)
(Stacy's mom has got it going on)
(Stacy's mom has got it going on)
(Stacy's mom has got it going on)

Stacy can I come over after school, oo-hoo oo-hoo? (after school)
We can hang around by the p-p-p-pool, oo-hoo oo-hoo (hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip? (business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip, eh-he, eh-he? (give me the slip)
You know I'm not the little boy that I used to be
I'm all grown-up now, baby, can't you see?

Stacy's mom has got it going on
She's all I want and I've waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong
But I'm in love with Stacy's mom

(Stacy's mom has got it going on)
(Stacy's mom has got it going on)

Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn? (mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on, oh-ho oh-hon (towel on)
I could tell she liked me from the way she stared (way she stared)
And the way she said, "You missed a spot over there", eh-here eh-here (spot over there)
And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out, your mom could use a guy like me

Stacy's mom has got it going on
She's all I want and I've waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong
But I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Stacy's mom has got it going on (she's got it going on)
She's all I want and I've waited for so long (waited and waited)
Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong
But I'm in love with (Stacy's mom, oh-ho oh-ho)

(I'm in love with) (Stacy's mom, oh-ho oh-ho)
(Wait a minute) Stacy, can't you see?
You're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong
But I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Nissin UFO Instant Yakisoba

Nissin UFO Instant Yakisoba ~ for the price of 13.75AED so far this is the priciest instant noodles I ever had in the UAE. As can be seen in the photos above everything's written in Japanese except the small sticker at the side. And what I like about it just like their other products is the sensible packaging. Seems like they got everything covered. As of the taste yes this is delicious. I don't remember eating any Japanese noodles that I don't like. Instant noodles is definitely a no~no in my diet but then I just can't help it especially at times that I don't have energy anymore to cook lunch. Definitely a comfort food for me.

Jose Rizal's Supposed To Be Illegitimate Sons

Please note that I got this from the Urban Legends Section of Pinoyexchange. As a reader I don't believe it. But had fun in reading it anyway so I am sharing.
Source: Jose Rizal
Adolf Rizal (and his Half Brother, Rizal Zedong)
by Manuel L. Quezon III

Here is the craziest thing I’ve heard (and I’ve heard it more than once, at parties): Adolf Hitler was really the illegitimate son of Jose Rizal. Here is the second craziest thing I’ve heard: Mao Zedong was actually Rizal’s illegitimate son. Two variations, I suppose, on the idea that "Yes, the Filipino Can!"

Sadly, I found the two theories so funny that I never thought of asking the people who told them to me to explain on what grounds they based their claim about Der Fuehrer and the Great Helmsman. A dentistry student friend from UE has also heard these fanciful theories, but it also did not occur to him to ask on what evidence these fanciful claims were based. So I did a little research to find out how people could make up such a story.

The claim that Adolf Hitler was Rizal’s progeny must be based on the following facts:

  • Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 (that means he could have been conceived sometime in August 1888), in the little village of Braunau, near the German- Austrian border.
  • He was born an Austrian and remained one until the 1930s.
  • The name of Hitler mother was Klara Polz.
  • At one time she was a maid in Vienna.
  • Hitler always considers a town Linz, in Austria, as his hometown (in his Political Testament he referred to " my hometown of Linz on the Danube").
  • Hitler's oldest brother, Gustav born on May 17, 1885, and his sister Ida, born in 1886, both died before he was born.
  • Bavaria was considered the "cradle" of Nazism.
  • The Nazis made Japan one of the Axis powers. At one point they tried to prove that the Japanese were Aryans, to make the Japanese members of the "master race."

Now combine the above information with the following, culled from the life of Rizal:
  • On February 1, 1886, he left Paris for Germany. He went to Heidelberg, Wilhelmsfeld, Munich (in Bavaria), all somewhat near a German–Austrian border; on August 9, 1886 he left for Leipzig ("visiting various German cities along the way," one book says), arriving there on August 14. In October he went to Dresden and then to Berlin.
  • In Berlin he finished Noli Me Tangere. One of the book’s characters is named Maria Clara.
  • On May 11, 1887, Rizal began his Grand Tour of Europe. He went to Dresden, Teschen (now Decin in the former Czechoslovakia), Prague, and then Brunn (where he lost a diamond stickpin), and Vienna (where he got back his diamond stickpin, which was found by maid in the hotel he stayed in Brunn) in Austria.
  • On May 24, 1887, he left Vienna by riverboat to see sights on the Danube River (on the boat he saw paper napkins for the first time). His voyage ended at Linz.
  • From Linz he went to Munich (where Hitler attempted a putsch in 1923) and Nuremberg (site of the Nazi Party rallies and the War Crimes trials), and other German cities.
  • Rizal was in the German Empire, sometimes past the German-Austrian border, from February 1886 until he went to Switzerland in early June 1887.
  • Rizal was again in Europe from May 24, 1888, until October 18, 1891. He was in London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Biarritz, Ghent. He was in Europe during the time Hitler was conceived and when he was born.
  • Rizal in 1888 had an affair with a Japanese woman, Seiko Usui, when he visited Japan. She had an only daughter, Yuriko, by a foreign husband some years after her encounter with Rizal. Yuriko later married the son of a Japanese politician.

Put all these information together and you may be able to conclude the following: Hitler was conceived either in 1887 when Rizal passed through Linz or other towns (such as Brunn - How do you think he lost the diamond stickpin? And who was the "maid" who found it later and gave it to Blumentritt who forwarded it to Vienna?) near the Austrian border. In which case Hitler’s older siblings were fictitious, to cover up his mother’s being pregnant with him. In other words, Hitler was actually born before 1889.

Or he was conceived in August 1888, when Rizal was supposedly in London. Or perhaps in September 1888, when Rizal went to Paris for a week (to have a rendezvous with Klara?). Maybe he went to Paris in 1889 so he could communicate more easily with the now-expecting Klara? Klara Polzl’s affair with Rizal may have centered around Linz, which is why the Hitler family moved there later (so Mama Hitler could live where she had An affair to Remember), which would explain Hitler’s fondness for the town.

Finally, Seiko Usui’s only daughter was not really fathered by her husband, Alfred Charlton. He was simply a front. Yuriko, you see, was Rizal’s daughter! And Hitler knew she was his half-sister. She used her influence on her brother Adolf to persuade him to enter into an alliance with Japan (making it one of the Axis powers). Which is why Japan invaded the Philippines!

Yuriko made it clear to Hirohito that Hitler would appreciate it if his ally were to take over his father’s homeland. And of course the reason why Hitler wanted to become dictator of Germany was because his natural father had spent some of the most interesting years of his life there!

That, I think, is the rationale behind such a fantastic claim based on information that can be gathered from any high school textbook on Rizal and any good biography of Adolf Hitler. Naturally, this can only be done through selective use of the evidence, but it does make for an amusing piece of historical fiction.

Now, as to the idea that Mao Zedong was also Rizal’s son. Unfortunately this claim cannot be supported by even the most spurious evidence. Mao Zedong was born in 1893, in Hunan Province, which you could say is kind of near Hong Kong. But at that time (1893), Rizal was in exile in Dapitan. Now it would have been possible for Rizal to scamper around Europe and get Klara pregnant without anybody noticing, but he couldn’t possibly have jumped into a boat and rowed to Hongkong without being caught. He did pass through Hong Kong in 1888 and 1891 but he never seems to have visited other parts of China (unless you count Xiamen and Macao). So there are no details that can be manipulated.

These exercises in foolishness prove how creative Filipinos can be. What other people would be able to make the bogus claim that one of their heroes fathered the man who almost turned Europe into a "howling wilderness" (to borrow from the instructions for the extermination of Samar by American forces at the turn of the century). That would have been poetic justice, I suppose. The brown man strikes back and all that sort of thing.

Crazy For This Girl - Evan and Jaron

She rolls the window down,
And she talks over the sound
Of the cars that pass us by,
& I don't know why,
But she's changed my mind.

Would you look at her as she looks at me?
She's got me thinkin' about her constantly,
But she don't know how I feel,
And as she carries on without a doubt,
I wonder if she's figured out,
I'm crazy for this girl.

She was the one to hold me,
The night the sky fell down,
And what was I thinkin' when,
the world didn't end?
Why didn't I know what I know now?

Would you look at her as she looks at me?
She's got me thinkin' about her constantly,
But she don't know how I feel,
And as she carries on without a doubt,
I wonder if she's figured out,
I'm crazy for this girl.

I'm crazy for this girl,
And right now,
Face to face, all my fears,
Pushed aside and right now,
I'm ready to spend,
the rest of my life with you.

Would you look at her as she looks at me?
She's got me thinkin' about her constantly,
But she don't know how I feel,
And as she carries on without a doubt,
I wonder if she's figured out,
I'm crazy for this girl.
I'm crazy for this girl...

Would you look at her as she looks at me?
She's got me thinkin' about her constantly,
But she don't know how I feel,
And as she carries on without a doubt,
I wonder if she's figured out,
I'm crazy for this girl.
Yeah, I'm crazy for this girl.

Someone Like You - Adele

I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah

Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah...

Rolling In The Deep - Adele

There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringin' me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare

See how I'll leave with every piece of you
Don't underestimate the things that I will do
There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringin' me out the dark

The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinkin' that we almost had it all
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling

We could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

Baby, I have no story to be told
But I've heard one on you and I'm gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Make a home down there as mine sure won't be shared

(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
The scars of your love remind me of us
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
I can't help feeling

We could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

Could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it with a beating

Throw your soul through every open door (Wohh ho ho oh)
Count your blessings to find what you look for (Wohh oh oh oh)
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold (Wohh ho ho oh)
You'll pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow

(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
We could have had it all
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
We could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
It all, it all, it all
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

We could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)

Could have had it all
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
But you played it, you played it, you played it
You played it to the beat

Milky Dress Deo Peeling Gel

I frown whenever I post photos because it reminds me that until now I don't have a budget yet to get myself a new decent camera. I always wanted to get the smallest mirrorless compact camera from Panasonic but at the time it came out it was too expensive for me. Probably by now the price is lower but it may not be available in UAE market anymore. And newer, better models are already out like Sony. I have to decide soon if I will get a Sony or not as the cameras in the UAE market are slowly vanishing. Seems like nobody uses camera anymore. So here I am posting quite blur photos. Forget about the eye catching photo composition as that is my weakest point in photography.

Milky Dress Deo Peeling Gel. This is one of the purchases I made for the month of March. I got this from TheBBcreamgirl website. By the time I ordered it, price was only 60.00AED for 50ML tube then after a few days it became 70.00AED. Tried searching for blogs and reviews about it but I can't find one. Whenever I use a product I want to know also other people's experiences about it.

As can be seen in the photos above aside from Korean there's also an English translation. Making us, non Koreans understand. You have to use it on the dry underarms and wash it off. It claims the gel will melt away the dead skin as well as the odor. Making the underarms 'brighter' in the process. Now to be honest whenever I see the word WHITENING in any products I am always skeptical even though I still end up buying the product just to try it out. I know in this product they didn't exactly use the word 'whitening' but it is synonymous to brightening. I still believe that to whiten the skin or certain part of the skin the only way is to get a chemical peel from a reputable dermatologist. Almost all the products I used have this word whitening but alas I still have the same skin color. I bought it to see if it will be a good exfoliator for underarms and compare it with Bison Wakilala Clear Wash. Here's a photo from their website:
Based on my initial use as can be seen on the last 2 photos above I did not see any dead skin peeling away. To think that I used it in the morning before I take a bath. Meaning that is exactly the same thing that will happen in my underarms. So if you are planning to buy it I hope you will not expect for it to whiten your skin as obviously it will not. And sadly by the way it looks it will not also be a super effective exfoliator. But I love the way it smells. Reminds me of those sweet bubble gums from my childhood. Buy it only if it you still have extra budget and would like to give some extra TLC for you pits. And this is only for underarms and I thought I can also use this to other parts of the body.

Usually I use the product for a month or until I finish it before sharing a feedback but that is not the case here. I'll finish this tube and go back to Bison Wakilala Clear Wash. That's it for now and thank you for dropping by.

Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter

Late 2013 or early 2014 when I finally laid my hands on this Trade Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter. There's a seller in Dubai who sells it for only 45AED per bottle or 40AED if you will order 6 or more. IG sellers sell it for 55AED and I even found one who sells if for 75AED to 80AED ~ whoah! That's just too much. It's 2015 and in Manila you can buy this on almost all the major grocery stores. But in UAE market? Still unavailable. Stopped buying it anyway as I prefer the other brand called Lotus Biscoff.

The motto of this product is 'you have to taste it to understand' and yes they are right. This is really a heaven in a jar that you'll never know not unless you taste it! This is a butter made of Speculoos Cookies. Originated in Europe. If you are looking for an addictive snack to try then this is highly recommended by me! You can eat it alone or as a spread. Me? I love to use it as dip to fruits :)

Moleca Shoes from Brazil

Forgive the messy background :) Purchased this lovely Moleca flat shoes for only 69.00AED at Safeer Mall. Moleca is a brand of shoes from Brazil and of course made in Brazil. A quite affordable line of shoes. They have so many lovely designs and colors to choose from. Soles are soft that makes walking easy. This is not for me though but for my little sister as I am not a big fan of suede. I find them hard to clean.

Safeer Malls offer many other brands of Brazilian shoes with almost the same price range as Moleca. But the downside for me being a woman with a very small feet not all the time I can find a size that would fit me. Sometimes size 33 is fine and would fit perfectly. Other times size 33 is quite big for my feet.

If you are looking for affordable and stylish foot wear then go ahead and check out what Safeer Mall has to offer. Thanks for dropping by!

Bulldog [Tonkatsu Sauce]

Bulldog, a brand of Tonkatsu Sauce. One of the items I purchased at Dean's Fujiya. Price of 17.00AED for 500ML. Japanese items are usually expensive in UAE ~ but then are there items that comes cheap in here? Maybe only Daiso. But comparing prices from Dean's Fujiya to Carrefour, it is quite higher in the latter. It used to be available in Carrefour but not anymore. As the title suggests this is a sauce for Tonkatsu or Deep Fry Pork. Or any other fried meat. Highly recommended by me :)

Daiso Product #9: Aloe Vera MakeUp Remover

Aloe Vera Makeup Remover Wipes
Price: 7.00AED [30 pcs per packet] @ Daiso
Made in Korea
One of my favorite make up removers. Aloe Vera MakeUp Remover wipes from Daiso. I know that in the market there so many brands but I haven't seen one that can beat this price as this good. This is what you can really call value for money. I got this one at Daiso in Lamcy. I am not sure if this is available in other branches. It is slightly scented but not bad at all. This can remove even the stubborn waterproof make up especially the mascara. Must buy if you are looking for a good brand but at the same time budget conscious. That's all for now. Thanks for dropping by.

Another Batch Of Korean Products

This is the first time I ordered items from TheBBCreamGirl. I shopped so many items for the month of March ~ nope I didn't win a lottery or got a salary increase :) I just got my ticket money and I didn't go anywhere for vacation so I have extra money for 'shopping' for all the items that I need and I want to try. This seller has a sleek website. So many items to choose from. So far she has the lowest rate of shipping fee for only 14AED. And if you purchase items for 300AED and above you'll get a free shipping fee. All the products she's selling are from Korea. Prices are not very low and at the same time not very high. Just in the middle. Lastly, the items arrived right on her promised time. Just don't expect her to give replies via Social Networks.

As can be seen in the photo I got myself 3 products for underarms that can also be used in other body parts Milky Dress Deo Essence, Milky Dress Peeling Gel and Milky Dress Sweat Proof. And for the face I got myself Innisfree MakeUp Blender (2 colors) and Missha Pore Cover Primer ~ both products are make up primer. And 1 Innisfree eyeshadow. How I love to get all the colors but I had to restrain myself due to my budget. And I don't need it much since I don't use eyeshadow on daily basis. 6 products that again I'll see for myself if they are good or not. The Etude House Precious Mineral Sachet was for free.

Beauty Products From Japan and Thailand

If there are BOGUS CUSTOMERS there are also BOGUS SELLERS. Thankfully so far I haven't met any Bogus Sellers. And I wish I'll never meet one, ever! Maybe because the mode of payment usually in UAE is COD. For the month of March, again I ordered some items from one of the trusted sellers in Instagram @onestopshopdxb. This time the free item that she has given me is a facial mask. I got myself Hadanomy Lotion and Hadanomy Cream from Japan for the face. Feminine White Cream, Cherry White and Pasjel from Thailand for the body. That's 6 products! Hopefully one of these will turn out to be a holy grail.

SK Products Philippines

*PHOTOS are not mine. Got them from Google Images. I'll share the source once I find it again.
From time to time I had been experimenting with different products that promises to whiten the skin. For the record, I am not aiming to be as white as Snow White. I love being morena but I wish to have an even skintone. No black spots. Almost a decade ago I used to buy these products in Watsons Philippines. It is called Dermacare SK or just SK. But Google only knows the SK II from Japan. That's sad. Price back then was around 100PHP only. I was using the Peeling Lotion and it really works. I am now remembering this underrated products as none of the supposed to be peeling/whitening products I purchased/tried works (Shark Oil, Green Peeling Oil, RDL Lotion, One Earth Organics etc. etc.) Will try to share my experiences with them. Now I am asking my friend and siblings to try hard to look for these products for me. And once they find it I will hoard that will last for the next 5 years. Try to Google it and you'll not find much info about it :(

Small House Designs #1

*PHOTOS are not mine. Source: Pinterest
When I was a kid I always wanted to live in a castle. Heavily influenced by the stories 0f Princesses. Now I am all grown up and working. Living in a small and crammed space (thanks to sky high rent prices) ~ life is tough only a few people can really afford a huge space. I am now fascinated into designs of small houses. I will update this post from time to time whenever I see good photos from Pinterest.

Daiso Product #8: Charcoal Pore Care Pack [Nose Strips]

Daiso Charcoal Pore Pack
Natural Charcoal
4 Pieces Per Box
Price: 7.00AE @ Daiso UAE
Made in Korea

For the last 8 years here in the UAE I had been using a different brand of nose strips. I don't have a problem with that brand but then I am glad that I found Daiso Charcoal Pore Care Pack. The one I am using cost 17.00AED (6 pieces in a box). Yes, price plays a major factor why I made the switch. Daiso is cheaper. But can do the same job. Definitely no way that I'll ever use another brand again. But the downside of this Daiso is the availability. It is usually out of stock. When you see it available you better stock up or wait a long time when it will be available again.

As of the first weekend of April they were not available at Mirdif City Centre and Lamcy Plaza. So for this month of April even though I no longer have a budget once it becomes available I'll surely buy a dozen or so. I cannot live without nose strips as sadly white heads whether I like it or not is something I cant get rid off 100%. Nose products can only lessen them but not make them totally vanish for good.
