Love

"Whenever I watch romantic movies, witness couples kiss and make up, listen to love songs.. I smile and feel good 'cause I know that love still works, if not for me, at least to others." - Ally McBeal

My Turkey Diaries: Mango Shop

As I have said as soon as I can I will share some information no matter how small they are. So here it goes. I'm working in UAE and one of the ways for me to stretch my budget is buy whatever I need or want only when they are on sale. Every now and then I buy clothes. For the office trousers only. As our bottom uniform is always a disaster. In UAE I don't buy from Tiangge and not because I am a brand conscious but because in Tiangge prices are fixed the whole year. Unlike in malls especially outlet mall they are having end of season sale where all the prices will really drop down as their goal is to make sure everything will be out of the store. I don't buy clothes just for me. I buy clothes too to send to my family as you know clothes are expensive in the Philippines compared to UAE (well only if the clothes in UAE are on sale).

So after one week here in Istanbul I was able to visit Mango Shop in Kadikoy. In UAE Mango was on sale last June to July but I was not able to purchase anything as the sale price was still too expensive for me. Imagine my surprise upon seeing the sale price of Mango clothes in Istanbul. I got myself one trousers which I will use at work. For how much? For only 20TL and that's 25AED. And for months I had been searching at malls in Dubai hoping to find a trousers (we call it slacks in the Philippines) that would cost me less than 50AED. But no such luck. And may I remind you that I also visited Mango in Dubai Outlet Mall a few times but still tough luck in finding really a good deal. Price as this low. But for the record Mango is not my favorite brand and I don't have a favorite brand. If Tiangge can offer me a 10AED clothing then I will not tire myself looking around in every malls that I can.

Since it is my birth month I have taken advantage of the sale. Got myself some pants for only 15TL and that's 20AED. And for the longest time I had been wanting to buy some dresses but it never materialize because I'm so cheapskate that I can't bring myself to spend a 100AED or even 50AED for a dress. But I don't mind spending that much amount of I will give it as a gift for my loved ones. I guess it is very common for us OFW's to prioritize our family first before ourselves. But anyway back to the dresses. For the first time in my life I bought 4 dresses it would have been 5 if only the last one fit for me so well. The most expensive dress I purchased was only 25TL and that's 32AED and to be perfectly honest I haven't seen a dress in UAE in any brand that would cost only 50AED. In fact in the recent months I noticed that clothing even on sale has become expensive. With that visit of mine to Mango it costed me only 166AED and if I'm not running out of Turkish Lira I would have bought something for my whole family. Some tops are even available for only 9TL but I did not available as I don't need tops. Besides I'm not planning on gaining weight again. Duh. Gaining weight is so expensive. In so many ways. And that's all for now. Hopefully I will be able to visit Zara this week. And I'm also hoping to get another pair of slacks and a good jacket it available on a very good price. Good night from Istanbul.

P.S. I'm sorry if I can't help regarding the location as I am here it also frustrates me that I'm asking Google a lot of questions about addresses and location. Or how to go to one place with a little luck. I even resolved into asking around via Social Media like Twitter. There is a Google Map but then I'm bad at reading maps.  But wherever you are in Istanbul everybody knows where is Kadikoy. And in Kadikoy if you are standing where the dock for ferries are you will see a Burger King across the street and you can just go there and ask around where is Mango. I don't speak Turkish and not all of them can speak English but you can rely on their gestures if you will go straight, left or right. Better bring a pen and paper so they can sketch it for you. Of course there are other Mango shops in Istanbul but this is the only one I know of. Maybe tomorrow I will see another shop again and I will share it over here.
