Tchibo Thermal Tights

Tchibo is a shop that looks like a European counterpart of Daiso. But they don't sell all the cute stuff like Daiso does. This is one of my favorite shops in UAE as they sell affordable items. One of the items I got from them was this Tchibo Thermal Tights that cost only 19.00 AED each. I purchased this so I can wear again those shorts and mini skirts from yesteryears. UAE is not really that strict when it comes to clothing but then it is better to be safe than sorry. And at the same time to show respect as this is still a conservative country. On  the next photo shows the materials of this thermal tights.
I do admit, I don't know what to look for when it comes to thermal tights since I didn't grew up in a cold country. And besides, I didn't purchase it for the sake of keeping me warm as the winter here isn't really feels like 'winter'. Just feels bearable unlike the summer. I have chosen this as I think that it will last longer since it has a thicker material than my usual stockings that I need to throw after 2 uses as they will  likely have runs all over them. And I am posting this to let people know that there are still affordable items/shops in the UAE. From the frugal people like me. Until next time. Ciao!

Bioderma Photoderm Max 50+

Bioderma Photoderm Max 50+
Price: 0.00 Samples only from Aster Pharmacy 5ML
Made in France

These are samples of Bioderma Photoderm Max 50+ which I got from Aster Pharmacy after being a regular customer for quite sometime now. And it has been a big help as I don't have to buy yet a sunscreen because of these samples. I am hoping/wishing the UAE Pharmacies will also give samples from other brands or have regular size as samples, but then that is what you can wishing thinking.

Now back to the product. I am totally new to sunscreens and I know it is a mistake not starting early in life in using them. As a result now I have dark spots. I don't really have complains about this one as this is not sticky and I think this is an oil free sunscreen. Blends well in the skin. Some other time I will a photo of swatches to explain it better. Until then, ciao!

Daiso Product #1: Blotting Paper

Daiso Blotting Paper
Price: 7.00 AED at Daiso
Made in Japan
Daiso is a Japanese store that sells almost everything under the sun that you can think of. But in UAE market it is limited. Not all skin care products they offer are available. Food and drinks are not available even if they don’t contain pork. Why is that so? Why is there a restriction on it? It is one of my favorite shops and I get to visit it whenever I am in Dubai. Products are affordable. Price starts at 7.00AED and with so many cute designs you’ll end up buying more than you intended to.
All these blotting papers are 7AED each only. Actually it is more practical to buy the boxes on the top photo as they contain 250 pieces per box but then I can't help myself getting these (on the 2nd photo) as they have cute packaging even though they contain only 100 pieces per packet. Japanese and Korean products have one thing in common, putting them in creative and cute packages that's pleasing to the eyes that makes you buy it! Nice marketing though.

Eau Thermale Avene Products Buy 3 for the price of 2!

Just a quick post. Me in spite of complaining about the prices in UAE still went to the nearest Aster Pharmacy as this week is the last week for their offer. Get 3 products for the price of 2. I don't want to buy stuff (unless I really need them immediately) unless they are on sale or on promo. And this promo at the pharmacy happens once a year only, I think. This is the best offer I have seen from them so far. Even though from time to time Vichy has buy 1 take 1, but only for limited items. You can't really choose. That's all for now.

Ciao!

The Bodyshop Lip and Cheek Doll

The Bodyshop Lip and Cheek Doll
Lip and Cheek Tint (1 color only)
Price: 72.00 AED at The Bodyshop
Made in Italy
I don’t actually need this product but I purchased it on impulse. Seems to me that lip and cheek tint is the ‘in’ thing right now. MAC Cremesheen Lipgloss is my favorite but I am trying to look for an alternative as this product: the price is very high for me and it doesn’t even last that long. The one I have right now lasted for barely 2 months only.

The applicator: (I don't like it, I prefer this kind of product in tube but as I said I made the purchase on impulse.  This could be my last purchase of lip and cheek tint with this kind of applicator)
When applied:
As lip product, not bad at all as the pigmentation is good but it didn’t last long on my lips maybe because I didn’t put enough of it. As a cheek product, I can’t complain too as seen in in the last photo that the color payoff is good. So if you don’t mind the price and the applicator that comes with it then this is worth trying.

When blended:
Till next time, Ciao!

Girl and Boy

Not my photos, got it through chain mail a long time ago. Too cute so it is worth sharing:

Faceshop: My Lips Eat Cherry [Aqua Tint]

The Faceshop My Lips Eat Cherry Aqua Tint
Lip and Cheek Tint
Price: 40.00 AED at Faceshop
Made in Korea

Honestly MAC is my favorite lip product. But right now, I don't think that the price in UAE is still reasonable. If you will compare the US price with TAX to UAE price WITHOUT TAX still UAE price is much higher. And in UAE they don't have sale any time of the year. Even if there is an ongoing Dubai Summer Sale or any other nationwide sales.  Because of that I started looking for other brands in the hope that I will totally forget about Mac. One of the brands I tried is this lip and cheek tint from Faceshop. It comes with this applicator:
This is my 2nd lip and cheek product after Ever Bilena. As of the scent, I don't have any issues at all as it is good. There's a hint of Cherry on it as promised. But upon applying on the lips it is inevitable that you'll get to taste the product which is something I don't like. I find the taste bitter which bothers me so once again I don't use it as lip product. But as a cheek product it is perfect for me. Here is the photo when applied and I can say that the pigmentation is good:
Here is another photo when blended. It is long lasting and the color is subtle on my brown skin. Another cheek product on my drawer which I have no idea when will I be able to finish. And I hope I do before the product expires to avoid wasting money. And sadly, haven't found yet the lip product that can replace Mac.

Ever Bilena Lip and Cheek Stain

Ever Bilena Lip and Cheek Stain
Price: 135PHP at SM Hypermarket
Made in China

Ever Bilena is a Philippine brand of make up and they have been around as long as I can remember. They make affordable make up. When I went to Manila for a few days I picked up some items from them as well are their other line the Careline. But I noticed that in spite of being a Philippine brand, their products are now manufactured in China. I don't have anything against China just to be clear, but is this the company's way to keep their products affordable? Just wondering.

I tried taking a photo after spreading the product on my hand but then thanks to my camera and the bad lighting inside the flat, none of the photos I have taken has done any justice to it. Which reminds me to include buying a new 'decent' camera in 2015. But anyways, back to the product as blush on I so love it. Being on tube helps a lot. You'll not waste a product as you can control and little goes a long way. Good pigmentation, easy to spread/blend using fingers only. Which is good for us who doesn't want to spend too much time in putting make up in the morning. But as a lip product? Not really. It smells good but whenever I apply it on my lips I can't help being able to taste it and it is not pleasant at all. Will I purchase again? Definitely yes, but then as of now I don't even know when will I finish this product.

La Roche Posay Lipikar Hand Cream

La Roche Posay Lipikar Hand Cream
Price: 60.00 AED at Aster Pharmacy
Made in France

The first ever La Roche Posay product that I bought. It was on promo so I said why not try it? And after that I'm hooked to La Roche Posay brand. This doesn't come with a box unlike Cicaplast Hand Cream but it doesn't really matter. Next photo show the ingredients for those people who wants to know:
What I like about this hand cream is the scent that reminds me of baby powder that we use on babies and children back home. As I have said I used so many brand of hand creams before but none of them do have this nice fragrance. And of course aside from the fragrance, what makes this stands out is it has a rich cream and absorbs by the skin quickly. Hands are moisturized well. The above photo also shows how dry my hand can be.
When spread around the hands:
I am just not so sure if all the pharmacies in UAE carries this or available all the time. As the last time I went to the nearby pharmacy I didn't see this anymore so I had to get another hand cream but still the same brand. Will definitely repurchase as I am happy with it.

Wakilala Clear Wash and Bright Up Essence

Wakilala is not available in UAE stores. But I was able to buy it from an IG seller. Username is @onestopshopdxb. And since this product is made in Japan and coming from Japan, it takes time to reach me. Wakilala Clear Wash is actually a scrub solely designed for underarms. While the Wakilala Bright Up Essence is a toner. I know sounds weird, who would have thought of making products for underarms other than Japanese? And it is not everyday that I stumble upon products for armpits. Usually armpit products are different kind of deodorants and whitening. But a scrub and toner? Are they supposed to be for the face only? Not anymore.

Daiso Products

My quest for an affordable skin care products led me to Daiso. Daiso is a Japanese Store where we can buy almost everything in a very affordable price. I remember when I first came to UAE they have a big branch in Sharjah City Centre and that branch do have a wide range of skin care products but then I was not able to shop there since I moved to Ajman. And for so many years of my stay here in UAE I seldom visit Daiso. They do have a branch in Ajman but it is out of my way. When finally after so many years I was able to visit Sharjah City Centre sadly, Daiso is not there anymore.

Daiso UAE is very different from Daiso in Japan or Daiso in Manila. For example, not all Daiso in UAE do carries the items on this photo. Daiso UAE has very limited selection of skin care products. Probably due to restrictions in UAE customs, I am not so sure. Daiso UAE doesn't carry any food items, is it because they are not Halal? I was able to find all these 3 items only in Daiso Oasis Mall branch. I can vouch that these products are good in spite of me not being able to know or understand the ingredients as they are written in Japanese.

And lastly, if you must know each item cost only 7AED. Way more affordable from the products I buy from grocery stores or from pharmacies. Next time I will write a post for each items. Goodnight for now.

Ciao!

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream
Price: 65.00 AED at Aster Pharmacy
Made in France

Isn't it obvious by now that this is my favorite brand? La Roche Posay. I always have dry and flaky hands that's why I cant live without hand creams. Over the years I have tried so many affordable hand creams that I can find in Carrefour. And when I say affordable means the price is below 20AED. But sadly none of them are long lasting. Meaning I keep on using them the whole day. Often than I apply lip gloss on my lips. This made me try a brand from Pharmacy. This is not the first hand cream I purchased from La Roche Posay which requires another post some other time.

Here's the list of ingredients for those who wants to know. And currently the pharmacy is having a promo of buy 2 products from the same brand, you'll get the 3rd product for free. I grabbed this opportunity so right now I have 3 stocks of this wonderful hand cream. Comparing to the other brands I used in the past and I can say that yes this is the best so far.
This comes with a leaflet inside the box which I will read later. Anyways, as the box says this cream is design for 'damaged' hands which means my hands I guess. Is there any other way to describe my hands? It looks like a gel as seen in the photo below:
It doesn't contain any scent which is fine with me. And absorbs by the skin fast and colorless as seen in the photo below. Will I purchase again? Yes if it is on sale or promo. Otherwise I will still look for a cheaper alternative, if I will find one.
Hope this post helps. Ciao!

La Roche Posay Anthelios KA SPF 100

La Roche Posay Anthelios KA SPF 100
Price: 110.00 AED at Aster Pharmacy
Made in France

The reason why I am avoiding as much as possible visiting to a pharmacy is whenever I visit I always end up buying something. Even though I say to myself that I just want to 'check' something. I end up 'buying' something. But no regrets with my recent visit as the pharmacy is having a promo. I bought 2 La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and I got this La Roche Posay Anthelios KA SPF 100 for FREE. Another day cream moisturizer to try!

I like it for being creamy. Well I am not good in writing so I am not sure if I should even use the word 'creamy' as all the moisturizers are supposed to be 'creamy'. As well as the other creams/lotions I am using. Let me try again, I like it for being thick and rich! Just a small amount is enough for the whole face. No strong scent. And just like the other La Roche Posay products this is also Paraben Free. I think all their products are.

Now what I don't like about it is this contains Alcohol Denat. I'm not getting any younger so do my skin so as much as possible I try to avoid products with this kind of alcohol to prevent drying of my skin especially on summer!

The list of ingredients for those who wants to know:
Sorry for the bad lighting though!
Easy to use pump:
That's all for now.. Ciao!!!!

UPDATE AS OF 27TH FEBRUARY 2015:

It has been months since I purchased this and it is not yet finished. As this is designed for day time cream only. When I first got this product I was hesitant just because it has an Alcohol Denat. But even if it contains alcohol I can tell that it is not drying on the skin. I don't think it is causing my skin any harm. Besides before applying it on my face I am using a sunscreen and a serum. This is in fact a good product from La Roche Posay and in spite of the price it is worth it. One bottle will last a long time. Maybe for a year? That's all for now. Thank you for dropping by.

Elf Cosmetics

Elf Cosmetics is a US brand, made in PRC. I haven't seen any physical stores in UAE. But various online websites offer this brand. As well as some IG sellers. Usually prices will not exceed 50.00 AED. This is my first ever ELF products. Purchased them on impulse. I don't need them but them I saw them on sale on one of the IG sellers I follow. Will share feedback once I use them. Ciao!

Kiko Cosmetics

Kiko is an Italian brand of make up. Unfortunately, it is not available in UAE. But then there are some IG sellers that sell them. But of course, the price will be quite higher and it is understandable. I was able to buy Kiko Lipsticks when I visited Venice. And I can say that this is really a good brand. I can compare it with MAC but with a reasonable/affordable price. Will share more photos of these goodies some other time. And still deciding if I should buy other stuff from the seller.

Ciao!

La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Serum

La Roche Posay Pigmentclat Serum
Price: 240.00 AED at Aster Pharmacy
Made in France

Here's the list of ingredients:
Honestly, I am bit disappointed when I see Alcohol Denat. But then I am not so sure if all serums Alcohol Denat is a must. I haven't done any research on that.
Front bottle of the serum. Stating the country of origin. I am a bit into French skin care products as they are easier to find here than the Asian skin care products. Even though they are not on the 'affordable' side. But at least sometimes they are on promo or I can ask a discount from the staff up to 10% which isn't bad than nothing at all.
This is my first serum. I am not into serums before and I don't even know their existence until recently. The staff at the pharmacy noticed that I have black little spots at both cheeks. They were not there before when I was younger and I wonder why I got them? The lady explained to me that this is due to sun and aging plus the fact that I don't wear sunscreen or sunblock. She suggested this product to me La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Serum. I was hesitant to get it at first due to it's price. Come on, anything more than 100AED and my pocket is already crying so how much more if the price is more than 200AED?

Still I ended up buying the product in spite of the price. Why? How can I not believe the lady who offered it to me when she has a very good and smooth skin? She told me that those customers with worst spots than mine are also using it. And she will give me a discount. I guess what really convinced me was because the lady has a good skin. She suggested that I use only at night. And it will take a long time before I finish the bottle.

It has been 6 weeks since I added this serum to my routine and I am using it twice a day. I wish I have taken photos but taking a selfie is not my thing. After 6 weeks my black spots are now lighter. I am not completely sure if I will wake up one day and those black spots are all gone. It that happens then I'll just update this blog.

The bottle has a pump. Turn it to right if you will use it then back to the left once you are done. I'll decide if I will continue using serum once I finish this bottle as the market offers so many serum for different skin problems.
Ciao!

UPDATE AS OF 05TH FEBRUARY 2015:

I finished this bottle in 3 months. Results? I don't have a before and after photos of my cheeks with sun spots but I can say that somehow they were lighter than before. But other than that, no further development. Maybe that is the best this product can do. To lighten the spots but not really to magically make then disappear for good. Maybe, there isn't such a product in the world that will make those spots vanish. For that reason I will not repurchase as this product doesn't come cheap especially in UAE. And I haven't seen any promos in the pharmacies around. Once I have the budget I will try another brand for the LAST TIME while reading articles again about sun spots. Could it be that once you have them the only way to remove it would be through surgery only? It doesn't bother be big time but then I am just a curious woman. Just one more product then I am done. After that and I still have them, then let it be..

A message for OFW's

[Forwarded Message]

I AM NOT THE ONE who wrote this. I just want to share it.

A few articles came out from different news sources about Suze Orman’s advice to OFWs about not sending too much money to relatives in The Philippines. She reasoned out that they can never be sure that their jobs overseas or their ability to do work would last as long as they need it to. She said that they should learn to save money instead of making sacrifices for other people by being too generous to them which would only make them lazy and develop a culture of mendicancy.

This has actually been going on for so long already. An OFW would work abroad, earn a lot more than he could in The Philippines which he would then send to his relatives, friends and anyone who could fool him to part with his money. People in The Philippines would give a lot of BS reasons as to why the OFW should give to them. We shall dispel these BS reasons in this article so you as an OFW can have the resolve to hold on to your money which you earn and you rightfully deserves to have. You also need to learn to make that money grow rather than put it in the hands of consumerists back in The Philippines who would merely make it vanish in thin air.

I. DON’T LET THEM TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE “LUCKY”

People in The Philippines would try to make you feel guilty and imply that you are “lucky” to be working abroad, therefore you have the obligation to “share” your “blessings” with the “less fortunate”. Unless you benefit from something like a lottery win, I believe that everyone’s situation in life was brought about by his conscious decisions and actions. If the OFW did not develop his or her skills, invest in whatever monetary considerations are needed to make working abroad possible and bravely go to a strange land adapting to a different culture then he or she would not succeed. Luck has little or nothing to do with it.

I am an OFW and I could say that my decisions led me to where I am, not a ball landing on the right number on a roulette table. To be able to qualify for a position in the Middle East, I developed my computer skills to a high level to the point of getting an MCP certification along with a myriad of other technical knowledge that could go along with it. That took a lot of hard work and patience in reading thick books and practicing on the computer for long hours. Those who preferred to party on a frequent basis, hang out uselessly for hours and value inanities instead of knowledge would of course not develop the skills to be anything so I do not see why I would give them even a single penny.

II. ALWAYS THINK THAT YOU NEED TO SAVE FOR YOUR OWN FUTURE

When I started working in the Middle East, I noticed that my co-workers were sending almost all their money to their relatives in The Philippines and leaving next to nothing for themselves. They also keep on buying the latest gadgets, clothing and jewelry they could get their hands on that they seem to not be able to save anything. I asked them why they keep doing those things and they said that they just wanted to be generous and happy.

As for me, I just live a simple life. I just buy the basics such as my food, low priced (but decent) clothing and other necessities. The only major thing I bought was a computer so I could be entertained and be able to do some extra work. At the end of my contract, I had $17,000 in my bank account and I used to immigrate to the United States where I believe I wanted to live permanently. The investment paid off as I have become a permanent resident in the US and have successfully established myself to live here for the rest of my life. I have been here for over nine years now yet I have heard that most of my former co-workers are still in the Middle East, with no savings and uncertain about their future.

They would not be able to work in the Middle East forever so when they already grow old and weak and they do not have an investment that would make their future secure then they would be back to where they started once their OFW status fades into oblivion. They just keep on throwing away money by giving heaps of it to their relatives (who are devoid of wisdom and discipline) instead of investing their money into something they could rely on when they get older such as immigrating to a first world country or putting up a thriving business (ran by themselves, not by relatives who would just screw it up and steal their money).

III. DO NOT GET AFFECTED BY GUILT

The most common tactic of Filipinos who want to sucker an OFW into giving money to them is to use guilt. I am OK with giving to people who have genuine medical emergencies that are matters of life and death but for other reasons, I really would not give anything even if they cry an ocean of tears. They would imply (or even say explicitly) that you are greedy and self-centered if you don’t “help” them. I know a case of an elderly OFW nurse in the USA who owned property in The Philippines and she rented it out to her relatives. These relatives stopped paying rent and told the OFW that life is hard and they really do not have any money to spend on anything. The OFW, feeling sorry, allowed them to live rent free for a few years and still paid her mortgage. One day, another relative of the OFW who is in the USA had his Facebook page open. He happily showed pictures of their relatives in The Philippines and she saw the ones living in her house. On the timeline, during the years that they were not paying rent she saw that they were going on vacation to Boracay, Pearl Farm, Palawan and having a great time. She then immediately demanded that they pay rent realizing that they were really not having a hard time since they kept going on vacations. What did she get in return? The relatives in her house told all their other relatives that she is “nothing but a greedy, self centered and selfish old woman”.

Another friend of mine who is a nurse confided in me that she married this uneducated Filipino guy who had no ambition or drive in life at all. She then heard that the guy’s family were saying that they “hit the jackpot” so I told her she has to brace herself for all the palms that would be facing up in front of her face waiting eagerly for her to drop them some greenbacks.

IV. NEVER BELIEVE IN PEOPLE WHO SAY YOU CAN GIVE THEM MONEY TO START A BUSINESS FOR YOU IN ‘DA ‘PINAS WHILE YOU ARE AWAY

A lot of OFWs have cases wherein relatives, friends or even random people would give them an idea that they would put up a business in Da Pinas using the OFW’s hard earned dollars only to find out that those people do not have a clue about running a business and screwed up their auto shop, carinderia, repair shop or other cockamamie scheme they were sold into participating in. By the time they find out, their dollars were already squandered. It is better to run your own business and know what you are doing by getting advice from people in the industry your business is in than have relatives swindle you out of your money.

V. WHAT I TELL MYSELF

Whenever someone from The Philippines tries to ask me for money, what I say is that all this money I have are earned by me and I would only give this money to someone who would give me something that I deem of equal value to it.

As an OFW, I have this money now because:

1. I saved
- While others were throwing their money away, I sacrificed useless “pleasures” so I would have something more concrete in the future.

2. I invested
- I invested time into developing my skills needed and getting education.
- I invested my savings into immigrating to a better country so I could be in a better and more permanent situation.

3. I risked
- I risked my savings into my immigration into the US never certain that it would succeed.

Those who are NOT willing to sacrifice in order to save, NOT smart enough to invest and NOT brave enough to risk do not deserve my money or anything they did not earn for that matter. They want what I have? They have to give me something of equal value or they have to also save, invest and risk so they can have money of their own.

VI. GIVING MONEY ON A REGULAR BASIS DEVELOPS A CULTURE OF MENDICANCY

You would always find a lot of unemployed OFW relatives who just do things like play basketball, hang out and sleep the whole day because (as one American with a Filipina wife told me) Filipinos are great enablers. As long as you keep giving to the Filipinos, they would never learn to stand on their own two feet or use their brains in order to make themselves productive. They would also develop a sense of entitlement over time that when you stop giving them money they would think that you are reneging on your “obligations”.

As an OFW, it is time for you to think about yourself. You need to have a stable future so you need to save money so you can invest it. Giving money to people in The Philippines does more harm than good when you look at the grand scheme of things. Think about it.

La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Eye Cream

La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Eye Cream
Price: 180.00 AED at Aster Pharmacy
Made in France
While I was on the Pharmacy, the staff asked me what I was looking for. I answered just an eye cream. Again she asked me for what purpose? Puffiness? Against tired eyes? (whatever that means) For dark circles? I can’t remember exactly all the terms she used. Since I don’t really have an idea about eye creams I just answered for dark circles.

So when I got home I looked closely into the mirror to realize that dark under eyes is not my problem at all. I should have asked for an anti-aging eye cream instead. But anyways, I am too lazy to go back and change the purchase I made I just use the product. I’ll just buy an anti-aging eye cream later.  As I am dying to try it out also.

It has been more than a month since I started using La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Eye Cream and honestly, I can’t say that it whitened my skin. BUT it made my skin moisturized and hydrated. That’s enough for me as my skin used to be dry to the point that I don’t want to use any products on it as it will just build up like a lump on my face.

I am using it religiously every morning and evening after cleaning my face. The only problem I have about this product is the price. I find it too pricey. Not just this one but everything from La Roche Posay. But then again is there something that is not expensive here in UAE? If end of this month my budget will allow me to do so I might go ahead and purchase the anti-aging cream while the Aster Pharmacy still have the promo of buy 2 products get the 3rd product for free!
Ingredients of La Roche Posay Pigmentclar Eye Cream.
